Columbia Neurosurgery Supports the 2025 ABTA BT5K in New York
Columbia Neurosurgery was proud to once again serve as a bronze-level sponsor of the American Brain Tumor Association’s (ABTA) BT5K, Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K, held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Pier 84 in New York City.
The BT5K is part of a nationwide series of fun-run/walk events that raise critical funds for brain tumor research, patient education, and support services. Each year, thousands of participants gather in cities across the country to honor loved ones, celebrate survivors, and support the ABTA’s mission to advance understanding and treatment of brain tumors.
At this year’s New York event, Columbia Neurosurgery was represented by a strong team of physicians, residents, and staff, including Brian Gill, Nelson Humala, Liang Lei, August Kahle, Ashwin Viswanathan, Brianna Pereira, Angeliki Mela, Misha Amini, Alexandra Backlund, Karen Conboy, Yuly Tamara, Hannah Haile, Peter Chabot, Brynn Bank, Caroline Chen, and Anthony Tang.
Special recognition goes to Dr. Brian J.A. Gill, who served on the Honorary Host Committee and as a featured panelist. He highlighted the importance of clinical trials in delivering new treatment options for brain tumor patients, shared updates on promising studies currently underway at Columbia, and offered advice for patients navigating trial eligibility.
The atmosphere at Pier 84 was filled with energy and hope, as survivors, families, and advocates came together to walk and run along the Hudson River waterfront. Through events like the BT5K, the ABTA continues to fund cutting-edge research and provide essential resources that improve the lives of patients and their families.
Columbia Neurosurgery is honored to support this cause and to stand alongside the ABTA in advancing care and research for brain tumor patients. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead.
