Dean Chou, MD, Appointed Spine Section Editor for Neurosurgery

Dean Chou, MD, an internationally recognized spine surgeon and neurosurgical leader, has been appointed Spine Section Editor for Neurosurgery, one of the most influential peer-reviewed journals in neurological surgery.

Neurosurgery is the official journal of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and is widely regarded as a premier scientific resource for neurosurgeons worldwide. In his new role, Dr. Chou will help shape the future of spine surgery research by overseeing the peer-review process and guiding the publication of high-impact studies that influence clinical practice and innovation across the field.

Dr. Chou serves as Chief of the Spine Division and Vice Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian/Allen Och Spine Hospital, where he specializes in complex spine surgery, adult spinal deformity, and minimally invasive techniques. His appointment reflects Columbia Neurosurgery’s continued leadership in advancing patient-centered, evidence-based spine care.

Dr. Chou also plays a key role in national neurosurgical education and scientific programming. He is the Scientific Program Committee Co-Chair for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) 2026 Annual Meeting, the Annual Meeting Chair for 2026 Spine Summit--AANS/CNS Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves annual meeting, and the Scientific Program Committee Co-Chair for the 2026 Lumbar Spine Research Society, helping to define the future direction of spine surgery research and collaboration.
