Dr. Sean Lavine Presents at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation TCTMD Annual Meeting in Washington, DC

Sharing the Latest Findings on New Stroke Technology and Case Work

November 8, 2024

Dr. Sean Lavine, Chief of Columbia Neurosurgery’s Cerebrovascular Program traveled earlier this month to present at TCTMD 2024 in Washington, DC. The TCTMD annual meeting serves as a resource for interventional cardiology and provides in-depth coverage across the spectrum of cardiovascular disease research and practice to enable physicians and industry professionals to keep up-to-date in the ever-evolving field including information about the latest devices and drugs used in the daily practice of cardiovascular medicine. The TCTMD is produced and administered by employees of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) a non-profit that works to help doctors improve survival and quality of life for people suffering from heart and vascular disease.

Dr. Lavine presented his first talk, “Extracranial Vertebral Artery Stenting. Where is the Data?” which focused on summarizing the published medical literature regarding the use of endovascular procedures in stroke from narrowing and hardening of the arteries in a specific blood vessel that supplies the deep structures of the brain, and he gave recommendations to other medical professionals as to the appropriate use of this procedure.  Following Dr. Lavine discussed, “Rescue Maneuvers When Thrombectomy Fails,” where he shared cases showcasing the advanced techniques for treating patients with technically difficult mechanical thrombectomy procedures in patients presenting with occluded large intracranial arteries causing acute strokes. He also served as an invited discussant on two experts panels: Carotid Artery Disease: State of the Art, and Interventional Management of Stroke.

Says Dr. Lavine, "The TCTMD Meeting is an outstanding forum for physicians who treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular pathology. It was started Columbia’s own Martin B Leon, MD and is being carried forward by our colleague Sahil A. Parikh, MD. This conference is at the forefront of advancing the latest techniques and endovascular devices for the treatment of cardiovascular medicine. It is the preeminent forum for the field, and they have expanded discussion in the cerebrovascular arena. I was proud to be invited along with other endovascular neurosurgeons at the forefront of the treatment of cerebrovascular disease to present our experience and opinions in this exciting specialty."
