He completed his neurosurgery residency training and fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Irving Medical Center, as well as a fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also received a Master of Science in Patient Oriented Research from Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health.

Research

As Principal Investigator of Columbia’s Clinical Informatics and Neuromodulation Lab, Dr. Youngerman leads research aimed at improving surgical outcomes and quality of life for patients with neurological conditions, including epilepsy, movement disorders, and pituitary tumors. His work brings together neuroscience, clinical informatics, and biomedical engineering to advance the future of neurosurgical care.

Current research projects include developing next-generation brain computer interfaces (UG3NS137364) and personalized neuromodulation with brain-behavior biomarkers (R61MH135405). Dr. Youngerman also leads multi-center studies to advance minimally invasive surgical techniques such as laser interstitial thermal therapy (American Epilepsy Society Young Investigator Award) and applies clinical informatics to identify barriers to specialized care and expand access for patients (KL2TR001874).

Dr. Youngerman’s research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, presented at leading national and international meetings, and supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and other organizations.
